Anastasios, spatharokandidatos and kleisouriarches of Seleucia, mid 9th century. Seal (Lead, 26 mm, 15.72 g, 12 h). Cruciform monogram of ΘЄOTOKЄ BOHΘЄI; in quadrants, TⲰ - CⲰ / Δ૪-ΛⲰ ("Mother of God, help your servant"). Rev. +ANACTA/CIⲰ S CΠAΘ,/[K]ANΔ, S KΛЄI[C]/[૪]PIAPX' CЄΛ/ЄVKIAC in five lines. Cheynet, Kofopoulos 3.185. Some surface roughness, otherwise, very fine.

The city of Seleucia was originally part of the Kibyrrhaiotai theme, but after the Arab conquest of Cilicia, in the 8th century, it was reorganized as a kleisoura. Between 927-934, the city was elevated to the rank of a theme by the emperor Romanos I Lekapenos.
